Children's Ministries

Working with children can be one life’s greatest challenges as well as one of life’s greatest blessings. It is important for every Youth Department in every church to see young people not necessarily for what they are today but for what they could be tomorrow. Training young people is a process of time and energy. This process is often difficult, with many hardships along the way but the potential product is worth more than all the riches this world could offer. Its reward is immeasurable.

We at Anchor Baptist Church realize the importance and value of the young people the Lord brings our way. We are not a social club, striving simply to provide activities for young people. Our main goal as a church is to build lives for the future. This requires a great deal of dedication, patience, understanding and love. It is our desire to instill in them a love for the Lord Jesus Christ, a yearning to know Him more closely, and a willingness to be used by Him now, as well as in the future.

This is not to say that that we are against "having fun" and allowing young people to enjoy life. We have an active Children’s Program for all children under the 6th grade. On Sundays we have Sunday School classes for all ages and during the adult morning Worship Service there is a Children’s Church provided. In each of these services there is a balance of sound, biblical teaching and fun-filled activities for each age group.

There is also a Wednesday night program called the "Patch the Pirate Club", complete with workbooks, songs, snacks, and games. The workers of this Wednesday night program put their heart into everything they do and it shows in their dedication to the Lord and to the children. Our children learn scripture, Bible stories, and principled lessons that will last them far into their coming years.

We count it a privilege to work with every young person possible. We do not try to usurp the authority or role of the parent but simply try to reinforce their authority through the Word of God. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Teen Ministries

We have an active teen ministry at Anchor Baptist Church. Throughout the year, we provide many different avenues of activity and ministry, and strive to be an encouragement and help to parents in the rearing of their teens in their formative years. We recognize that it can be incredibly difficult to rear teens in such a diverse and changing culture, so we attempt to be another resource for parents to utilize in the upbringing of their children.

Our youth group has many various and unique ministry opportunities to both have fun  and serve the Lord as well. Each year, we attend summer camp at Camp CoBeAc near Houghton Lake, MI, where they enjoy team oriented activities, form lasting relationships with other teens their age, and hear challenging messages from the Word of God. It is a highlight of our teen calendar and an encouraging time for all who attend. There is also a Snow Camp each year that we attend that is always well attended and everyone has a great time!

In addition to these trips, we  have monthly activities  including such fun times as bowling, laser tag, shopping trips, and cook outs. During the school year, we have a monthly Singspiration, which is an opportunity for all the teens of the church to get together one Sunday night per month after the evening service for games, refreshments, and a social time. Every other month we also have the chance to go to the local nursing home and be a blessing to the elderly in our community.

If you are a teen or have a teen in your home, please feel free to contact the church with any questions you may have.

Adult Ministries

The ladies of our church enjoy a special bond of friendship, love, and concern for one another that is truly beautiful to see. Each month throughout the year, the ladies of our church get together with the Pastor's wife, Brenda Crawford, and spend a Monday evening together. This time, called a Ladies Fellowship, is a time for relationships to be established and for burdens to be shared. A biblical challenge from one of the ladies in the group is always the focal point, but the time of fellowshipping is a delight to the ladies that attend. There is also the occasional trip to special ladies events, as the schedule permits.

So many of our men today are bogged down with work and responsibilities, that they fail to take time for spiritual renewal for themselves. We have been blessed in our church with a great group of men who are willing to lead by example. Each month we meet for a Saturday morning Prayer Breakfast in the fellowship hall at church at 8:00 am. We have a delicious breakfast, hear a challenge from the Pastor, share our burdens with one another, and then spend some time in prayer together. As we are in the midst of renovating our current building, we also spend time working together each Tuesday night at the church, building and repairing the Lord's house.

In March of 2007, our church started a senior citizens ministry entitled, The Silver Anchors. It is a ministry targeting all those 55 years and older and it has been a blessing to those who have been there since it's inception. We have taken trips to the Holland, Michigan, Tulip Time Festival, and have plans to travel to the Friedrich Meyer Gardens, Shipshewana, and Bronner's. In addition to this, we meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month for a pot luck style luncheon, a message from the Bible, and a time of great fellowship. It is the goal of the Silver Anchors to include as many as possible in their ranks and we want you to know that you are invited.
